Mapaq's Permits

The permit gives you the right to sell food that you prepare to the public. The public is people in general, whether they are friends or not. As soon as you make a sale, you become a food business, whether you prepare the food at home or in a dedicated space.

Manager training is mandatory for at least one person in such a business. This person will become the hygiene officer for the MAPAQ (Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food). The owner can designate an employee to fill this role and train them. When your business is inspected by MAPAQ, the inspector will want to speak with the trained individual, see their training certificate, your permit, and other things explained in the course.
