What is the m.a.p.a.q. Food Handler training?

This training lasts 6 hours when given in person. It covers the knowledge needed to work in food establishments in compliance with current Quebec's regulations. It provides a Lifetime Certificate recognized and sought after by employers. It allows employers to meet their quota of trained people while enriching their team with conscientious people, sharing a common positive attitude towards hygiene in general.

What is the m.a.p.a.q. Food Establishment Manager training?

This training lasts 12 hours when given in person. It includes the Food Handler training (see other question) in its first part and in the second, it helps you see yourself as a manager responsible for enforcing the standards learned during the first training. You become the person who must plan, organize, direct and control all aspects of sanitation in the company. Indeed, in the eyes of m.a.p.a.q., this training is mandatory for, at least, one person per permit. Furthermore, the m.a.p.a.q. inspector will want to talk about sanitation with the person who owns this very training on every visit. We make you able to face such an inspection. We do that by supplying toolbox illustrated with field experiences. This will allow the manager to prepare well, to choose where to put his energy and resources and to be a leader authentically oriented towards sanitation. The certificate here obtained will be good for life. It will be included in the calculation of the quota of trained people required by the m.a.p.a.q. for your business. This is explained in more details during the Manager training.

What is the quota referred to in the other answers?

2.2.4.2. of Regulation P-29: In addition to that provided for in section 2.2.4.1, the operator must comply with one of the following obligations:

1° ensure the presence in the place or vehicle, during the hours when it carries out its activities, of the person responsible for controlling food hygiene and safety or at least one member of its staff holding a food handler or food establishment manager training certificate;

2° ensure that at least 10% of its staff members assigned to the preparation of products or the washing or cleaning of materials and equipment in contact with products, including the person responsible for monitoring food hygiene and safety, hold a food handler or food establishment manager training certificate.

How do I choose which m.a.p.a.q. training I should take?

If you open or buy a food business, you or your delegate must have Food Establishment Manager training since at least one person must hold this training per permit issued by the mapaq.

Why train more employees than what the m.a.p.a.q. requires?

Many employers believe it is a plus to have a strong core of trained people within their team so that people speak the same language when a question related to sanitation arises. Such a core has a beneficial influence on new employees. The team makes fewer mistakes, is more proactive and the climate is improved. And let's not forget that offering an impeccable place and behaviors to customers also brings dividends. People talk about you no matter what you do, good or bad.

What advice do you give to people who undertake online training?

- Read carefully all the pages of the impecplus.com site that are related to the training you have chosen to follow.

- You will be entitled to 1 hour of video session for your questions before your exam. We can chat about the material (2 times one hour for the Food Establishment Manager training). Decide what you want to achieve during this hour, no one has the same needs. This hour does not replace a serious and complete study of the course module. In general, people use it to deepen certain aspects of the course. Do not request your Teams video session if you have not:

- Done the equivalent of 2 good reads of the material

- Done all the quiz exercises, consult the expected answers and correct your mistakes by returning to the subject in question in the training material. nb: there are no quizzes in the 2nd part of the Manager course.

I have never used Teams (the video-session application) do you have any advice for me?

- The video sessions will help you check that your equipment will work well during the exam. This is one of the advantages of using them. (1 or 2 one-hour sessions depending on the course chosen). We use Teams and it is very user friendly. You will only have to click on a link that you will receive in an email 2 minutes before the scheduled time. Nothing to download.

- It would be appreciated if you could do a test with a friend to check if your internet connection is fast enough to support a video exchange. Also, choose a functional device (pc, tablet preferably). Your devices must work well. If you have not turned it on for a long time, it might self update once turned on, which will be time consuming. You may not be able to use it for several minutes. This is one of the possible examples of problems that can affect your concentration during an exam. Cell phones are not very suitable for exams, however doable if you have sharp eyesight. A larger device is preferable but not mandatory.

- Practice before your exam or video session. You do not want to waste 15 minutes because you do not know how to turn on your microphone or camera. Do a test with a friend. Remember, at the bottom left of a pc screen, are the sound and camera controls.

- Be connected 2 minutes before the scheduled start of your session.

If I think I have personal difficulties, am I entitled to any help?

Accommodations are sometimes possible in case you have cognitive, linguistic, physical or other learning difficulties. Let us assess whether we can do something to facilitate your learning. We can't guarantee anything, but make your request and we will study it carefully. On this subject, let's say that we don't just want to sell you training, we want to imitate mapaq in its plan to reduce the case of food poisoning consumed in Quebec. Thus, it is important to us above all that you have understood the material taught.

Why take a trining if I already know all the content of the course?

You may request to only take the exam with us. However, before doing so, you will need to obtain a permission from the mapaq. Give us a call:
